Hong Kong Richest Men in 2008

LI KA-SHING TOPS THE LIST WITH WEALTH UP US$10 BILLION TO $32 BILLION.

The 40 richest people in Hong Kong are all worth BILLIONS, thanks largely to the city’s red hot property sector and close ties to China’s booming economy. According to the inaugural Hong Kong Rich List published by Forbes Asia, their combined wealth is US$179 billion, $59 billion more than their counterparts in mainland China.

No 1 Richest Man in Hong Kong is still Li Ka-Shing, 79, head of Cheung Kong Holdings and Hutchison Whampoa. The self-made billionaire is worth $32 billion, an increase of $10 billion over last year. In absolute dollar amounts, his is the biggest individual gain on the list. Li’s Cheung Kong Holdings holds vast tracks of real estate in Hong Kong while his Hutchison Whampoa conglomerate is the world’s largest container terminals operator and largest health and beauty retailer.

His youngest son Richard Li, 41, also features on the list at No. 24 with $1.52 billion. He cashed out of two high-profile stakes last year, including his 55% interest in the Landmark Marunouchi Building. The Tokyo property was sold for $1.7 billion, the highest price paid for a single piece of real estate in the Japanese capital.

No 2 Richest Man in Hong Kong are brothers Raymond, Thomas and Walter Kwok of Sun Hung Kai Properties, Hong Kong’s biggest developer by market value. Their combined $10 billion gain in the past year takes them to $24 billion. The brothers also have interest in telecom company, SmarTone-Vodafone and in city bus operator, KMB.

No 3 is Lee Shau Kee, “Asia’s Warren Buffett”. Lee’s correct predictions last year on rising China stocks, climbing oil prices and the weak US dollar, led to an impressive $6.5 billion gain and a net worth of $23 billion.

No 4 is Cheng Yu-tung, head of conglomerate New World Development with $9.4 billion, an increase of $2.9 billion.

No 5 is Stanley Ho, Macau’s original casino mogul, with $9 billion, up $2 billion from the previous year.

Many have come up to me, sharing their anger, fatigue, loneliness. It is always either they sleep all day long or they can’t get to sleep. Their appetite is excessive or decreased. The jobs they don’t enjoy at all. When it is hard for them to remember what it is like to be happy. Killing themselves is the only solution. I wonder if how many of them are aware of the same thinking i have sometimes. Of course, I hear, one by one of their stories.

Humans’ thoughts are simply uncontrollable. How you feel is not the result of what has been happening in your life. You are what you do, not what you did or what you are going to do. The thought of ending a life, I must say is absurd. How bad your life is for you to have this way out of the life that has been given to you.

Let me share with you what I think about Life.

Life, the amount of periods we live is known as life. One has only a life to live for. In other words, oen can only live once, minus the conservative or religious beliefs of “afterlife”. Life is just too short for negative thinking.

Happiness, the best emotion that mankind can attain, is attaining and will keep attaining. Happiness can be attained in many ways.

 My Way : by doing something I like, by fullfilling a task or simply by doing good deeds. As long as it brings a smile across people face,I know that I am happy with what I am doing.

Have we ever given a thought that what you do to bring joy to others’ life, is merrier than the joy we achieved by ourself?

I would like to wish everybody a very happy new year 2008. In this new year I truly want to improve my Internet Marketing skills and really want to earn at least $100 per day. It’s just for starter. Afterwards I will increase the amount. So right now I’ve got concentrate in earning $100 per day and hopefully can double the amount every month. hehe..:)

In this year 2008 I am going to educate myself more on financial, money, business topics by reading books. The books that I will read must be about the story of a person who has become successful and wealthy such as Robert Kiyosaki, T. Harv Eker, Donald Trump, Christine Lynch, Zig Ziglar, Joe Girard, Blair Singer, Google story, Dell, Starbucks, Microsoft, Lee Ka Sing, and many more…wah… Luckily I love to read this kind of books. Haha…
